The closest airports to Dumfries are Glasgow Prestwick, Glasgow International, and Edinburgh Turnhouse (NOTE: it is much easier to get to Dumfries from Glasgow and Glasgow Prestwick than it is from Edinburgh).

These airports are served by British Airways, British European, Aer Lingus, British Midland, EasyJet, Ryanair, Scot Airways, Go, and many North American and international carriers.

A cheap option is Ryanair (www.ryanair.com), who fly from Glasgow Prestwick to London Stansted, Dublin, Frankfurt, Paris-Beauvais, Oslo-Torp, and Brussels-Charleroi.

There are direct train links from Glasgow Prestwick to Glasgow train stations.

There are bus links from Glasgow Airport to Glasgow Central and Glasgow Buchanan Street Bus station (£3.50 single, £5 return).

If you are arriving by air in Edinburgh, there are bus links from Edinburgh Airport to Edinburgh Waverley Train station, from where to can get the train to Glasgow.

Trains from Edinburgh Waverley to Glasgow Queen St. station run twice every hour and take approximately 45 minutes. (There are bus links from Glasgow Queen St to Glasgow Central every 10 minutes).

Trains from Edinburgh Waverley to Glasgow Central are less frequent and take approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
