Dumfries is on the west coast line which goes through
Kilmarnock and Dumfries to Carlisle (this is not the
West Coast mainline which goes direct to Carlisle and
London). From Glasgow take the Scotrail service from
Glasgow Central via Kilmarnock and Dumfries to Carlisle
and alight at Dumfries (www.scotrail.co.uk).
The journey takes just under two hours.
From England take the Scotrail service from Carlisle
to Glasgow Central via Dumfries and Kilmarnock and alight
at Dumfries (www.scotrail.co.uk).
The journey takes approximately 30 minutes.
If you are arriving in Glasgow by train, be aware that
there are two main train stations, Glasgow Queen St
and Glasgow Central. Trains to Dumfries leave from Glasgow
Central. There are bus links between the two stations
every ten minutes and the cost is minimal (50p) and
sometimes included in the price of train tickets. |
